I DARE NOT SAY

via I DARE NOT SAY

I DARE NOT SAY

woman hostageLife for me has been good

And I’ve lived the best I could,

But I dare not say

That I did it my way.

I grew up in Old South,

And I learned very early on

To “Be a good girl and mine your mouth.”

I was scared and not really free

To speak against what bothered me.

Thank God there were other men

Who cried out against racial   sins

And uncovered for the world to see

Just how cruel injustice can be.

Oh hats off to those players brave

Who feared not their fortunes to save.

For in kneeling down on one knee,

They stand tall to keep us free.

Where Is Our God??

Where is our God

While we collapse under the weight of sin?

Where is our God

As we moan the destruction of men?

Where is His judgement?

Does it linger in wait for the end?

Or, does it attacks in little spurts unnoticed,

Destroying a few here and there for sin?

Where is His mercy?

Does it linger in wait for the end?            i

Or, is it woven within the fabric of life,

Protecting His from evil again and again?

Where is the peace of our God?

Does it linger in wait for the end?

Or, is it resting quietly within us,

Displaying hope and happy to all men?

We who recognize God as Savior

Should answer all these questions and more.

For God with His mercy, peace, and judgement

Is always knocking at our door.

GODLY WISDOM

GODLY WISDOM

doors

,

Doors, like racists, shut out the unwanted.

But is that the best thing to do?

When one locks all others out,

He locks himself in a prison too.

The best thing to do is to open the door

To all who comes and knocks.

Give each man a fair chance

Whether you know him or not.

You may be surprised to see

That your view gets clearer up-close.

For many people at second glance

Look far, far better than before.

That drug addict we turned around,

Or the thief we feared for our lives

Maybe the ones we really need

To help our country thrive.

Like Jesus you are the door

That opens up to your heart

To love all who comes within

Is Godly wisdom on your part.

MY GUIDING STARS

pigeon

 Written by Glory S. Davis

My guiding stars are points of lights

Set on my path to lead me right.

They are parts of the Master’s plan

To steer me through this earthly land.

 .

Sometimes my stars are not really friends.

Their only goal is to scheme my end.

But they are always surprise to see

That God’s plan is to favor of me.

And though they scheme all day long

God’s Will is oh so strong.

All their plots to hurt or harm me

Advance God’s plans to set me free.

Sometimes my stars are total strangers

Set in my way as personal road angels

To guide me away from the danger ahead

Saving me from pending doom and dread.

Yes, my Lord paved a path, you see

And set shinning stars to favor me.

As I journey this life day by day,

God guides me in His wondrous way.

THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS SHAKY BUILDING

THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS SHAKY BUILDING

THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS SHAKY BUILDING

The cornerstone of this shaky building

Is grounded and free from harm.

It stands not upon this earth

But rests in God’s loving arms.

He welcomed me long ago

When I was just a child,

And He has never left me . . .

Not even for a little while.

And though I stray away, at times

Out into the dangerous dark,

He like a shepherd comes for me

And carries me cradled near His heart.

Yes, I have witnessed many trials;

Seen Love ones go to other lands.

Old Age with his scythe has crippled me.

This old building sways . . .  but still stands.

I know if I stay in God’s hands,

Enfolded here all cozy and warm,

The devil may try hard to win me,

But he can never really do me harm.

For the cornerstone of this old building

Keeps me standing all safe and calm.

It upholds me in good and bad times . . .

Anchored safely in God’s loving arms.

ANOTHER SET OF THREE

(A poem I wrote for VHS Black History Program)
I came to VHS today
To say in my own special way:
There is another set of three.
God himself willed it to be.

He commanded us to love one another;
To be kind to our sister and brother.
Because of that we may never do
What our first mind tells us to.

Though our enemies call us names
Or treat us bad and slap us insane,
We must turn the other cheek
And always remain peaceful and meek.

When we set our goals high
And men scoff at our very best try.
We can’t fall down to our knees.
If we just keep trying, we will succeed.

If people don’t respect us.
God forbids us to fight or fuss.
We must treat others in the same way
We want to be treated every day.

Yes, freedom is never really free.
It comes with restraints you see.
Our freedom will quickly end
When we infringe the rights of men.

Reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmatic are find.
They do well to develop the mind.
But, respect, resilience, and responsibility
Do much more to keep us free.
